U. S. Steel Kosice, s.r.o. (hereinafter USSK) possesses a highly-qualified and professionally skilled work-force. Investment in development of human resources is one of the priorities in the top management interests.
In 1992 we gained international QMS certification in line with EN ISO 9001 for our Hot Rolling Mill, as the first facility in Central and Eastern Europe. Since then QMS has been gradually introduced into all USSK organizational units. Nowadays USSK holds EN ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16 949 certificates for the automotive industries.

In addition, our Radiators and Pipes Division Plant (DP) is also certified in accordance with API Spec. 5L and API Spec. Q1, related to the oil industry pipe production.
We gained international certification for our Environmental Management System under EN ISO 14001 in 1997 for the Cold Rolling Mill DP and in 1998 for the Radiators and Pipes DP. At the present time the Environmental management system of USSK is internationally certified according to EN ISO 14001 in our 6 division plants.
Environmental Management Systems are implemented in all other division plants.
Metrology performance assurance of our gauges, measurement systems and chemical analyses as well as testing of individual products are carried out by accredited U. S. Steel Kosice laboratories, which are among the leaders in Slovakia. Our laboratories are accredited in compliance with ISO IEC 17025 requirements under the Slovak National Accreditation System (SNAS), which is part of the international organization ILAC.
To ensure ongoing improvement in all activities within USSK, the Continuous Improvement Process is being implemented, focusing on improvements in product quality, productivity and customer satisfaction, improvement in occupational safety and the working environment, as well as cost reduction.
USSK holds numerous production certificates from renowned certification companies. The significance of these certificates lies in our capability to sell our products to various processing industries.

On November 4, 2002 U. S. Steel Kosice, s.r.o. achieved the highest acknowledgement of quality - the Slovak National Prize for Quality.
This Prize is awarded to the winner of a competition whose principles are based on the European model of entrepreneurial excellence, consisting of nine criteria. Winning the Prize is the condition for participation in the European Prize for Quality, which is equivalent to the Malcolm Baldridge Award in the U.S.A.
The Slovak Gold Foundation awarded its quality brand certificate and the SLOVAK GOLD medal for U. S. Steel Kosice's steel panel radiators (KORAD brand) on April 16, 2002. The Presidium of the Slovak Gold Foundation decided on this prestige award.
