Developing the Regional Economy

     U. S. Steel was one of the first multinational corporations to recognize the benefits of investing in Eastern Slovakia. The transition economies in Central Europe are growing stronger each year, and the demand for consumer goods and products is steadily increasing.
Operating costs are competitive and the labor market is plentiful with skilled, well-educated, and hardworking people. In addition, Eastern Slovakia is strategically located in the heart of Central Europe, within efficient transport distance to markets in the European Union and Western Europe, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

To increase employment and develop the economy of Eastern Slovakia, USSK established Economic Development Center (EDC). In close cooperation with national and regional authorities, embassies, business organizations, and other companies, the EDC sponsors investment conferences; hosts business visits, and helps new companies establish operations in the region. U. S. Steel Kosice's Economic Development Center has been successful in attracting foreign investment, creating new jobs, developing industrial parks, and stimulating the growth of Eastern Slovakia's economy.
