David Lohr and Frantisek Knapik talked to them in the new classroom

Kosice, Apr 23, 2007 - Representatives of the company U. S. Steel Kosice and the city Kosice opened a new classroom intended for pupils of the elementary school L. Podjavorinska at the housing project Lunik IX.

The classroom is equipped with modern didactic tools and will mainly serve pupils of the second grade of elementary school. A data projecting device and projection sheet will be used during lectures of history, physics or math, since the school has learning tools available for these subjects on CD and DVD media. "The investment is aimed to motivate pupils toward education. We believe that the modern learning tools and illustrations will increase the pupils´ interest in study," U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr said. He recommended to the pupils: "my successful performance was based on hard studies, therefore work hard, set forth high goals and use all opportunities that come your way. Success has impact on many things but skills and education represent the basis that will ensure a successful future to you." David Lohr knows of what he speaks. He grew up with seven siblings on a farm and he and his brother were the first ones in the family who had a chance to study.

The city Lord Mayor Mr. Frantisek Knapik wished much success to the pupils with the new classroom. "I believe that support and development of similar activities will continue at the habitation Lunik IX and will help the children in preparation to become engaged in the work process," he said.

The attendees tested the new projection equipment on a film dealing with the educational program of Lunik IX inhabitants. The film will be seen by all the school pupils during the next days. Participants of the course "Mechanics of Metallurgy Equipment" are included in the special employment project that has been implemented by the company since the year 2002. The president of the metallurgy works gave information as to further project continuation for people from disadvantaged groups, since insufficient education represents a major obstacle in employment seeking. Mr. David Lohr expressed his belief that other companies within the region will initiate similar projects in the future.

USSKE will provide transportation of the best pupils of the elementary school at Lunik IX Kosice to the event organized in the Kosice ZOO on June 02, 2007 for the occasion of International Children´s Day.
