Kosice, Slovakia, Nov. 2, 2007 - United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced that Matthew B. Perkins has been named vice president-operations at its U. S. Steel Kosice subsidiary. In his new role, Perkins will report to David H. Lohr, senior vice president-European Operations, and be responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations at the Slovakian subsidiary's facilities. The change is effective immediately.

"Matt's technical knowledge and service in both the United States and Central Europe will be real assets to us at U. S. Steel Kosice," commented Lohr. Perkins, 40 and a native of Hamilton, Ohio, worked for LTV Steel Company for 10 years before U. S. Steel acquired LTV's East Chicago Tin facility in East Chicago, Ind., where he was employed as an area manager, in 2001. After progressing through positions at East Chicago Tin and Gary Works in Gary, Ind., Perkins relocated to Serbia in 2003 when he was promoted to general manager of finishing at U. S. Steel Serbia's Smederevo facility. He advanced to operations director for U. S. Steel Serbia one year later. He accepted his most recent assignment, plant manager of primary operations at Great Lakes Works, in July 2006, and was responsible for oversight of all iron and steel making operations at the Detroit-area operation.

Perkins graduated from The Ohio State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering. He completed his master's degree in business administration at the University of Pittsburgh in 1998. He and his wife, Nadezda, will relocate to Slovakia.
