Good work proves the point

On Wednesday of last week, December 15th, the Ferrocentrum Social Club was the venue for the official awarding of certificates at the end of a basic management course covering social, economic and legislative issues which was organized by U. S. Steel Kosice for steelworks employees from the Lunik IX neighborhood in Kosice.
The award ceremony was attended by USSK Vice-president Personnel and Organization Martin Pitorak, General Manager Energy Resources Vladimir Jacko, Power Plant and Cokery Division Managers, Velka Ida village council leader Frantisek Snir, the priest leading the mission at Lunik IX Jozef Cerven, as well as all the participants in U. S. Steel Kosice's special employment projects. From September 20th to December 13th this year, fourteen young Romanies were taught by staff from the Secondary Metallurgical School in Kosice and by Bill Barker, an American who has been working for several years in Slovakia. After the participants in the 40-hour course received their certificates, another official act took place.
U. S. Steel Kosice management carried out its decision to sign full employment contracts with the three young men with the best results. Vice-president Martin Pitorak signed contracts with Karol Polak and Dionyz Sasi, who have been working on temporary contracts at the Power Division Heating Plant. The third new member of the steelmaking family is to be Tibor Horvath from Velka Ida, who was not able to attend the end-of-course celebrations due to serious personal reasons.

Breakfast with the President

U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta last week held a working breakfast to which he invited journalists whose regular work includes reporting about the activities of U. S. Steel Kosice. The discussions at the meeting covered occupational safety, ecology, large capital investment projects, cost-saving plans and the year's production results.

The final groups of employees to meet U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta for a working lunch during the course of this year consisted of selected staff from the Secondary Metallurgy Division and the Company Management, who lunched with the President on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week.

Gifts for children

Three more children's homes have been visited before Christmas by Phyllis Navetta, the wife of the U. S. Steel Kosice President. Children can now look forward to more presents under the Christmas tree in the Hostovica, Koromla and Nizna Kamenica children's homes.

Veronika and Katka receive their prizes

Last week Veronika Sulcova and Katarina Grofova, the two winners of the competition for the best drawing on the theme of occupational safety organized for the fourth time now by the staff of the Director Occupational Safety and Hygiene, met USSK Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga. The girls came to U. S. Steel Kosice accompanied by their parents to receive prizes for their achievement from the Company.
