President Navetta meets trades unionists

On Thursday, March 24th, another of the regular meetings took place between U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta and members of Metalurg U. S. Steel Kosice Trades Union Council led by Chairman Mikulas Dula. The meeting, which was concerned with current issues in the life of the Company, was also attended by Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga.

USSK once again supports the health service

Last week Vice-president Personnel and Organization Martin Pitorak handed over a symbolic check worth 300 000 SKK to the Director of the East Slovakian Institute for Coronary and Vascular Diseases Frantisek Sabol. This gift was presented by USSK on the occasion of the opening of the vascular operating theater and the delegating of the Vascular Surgery Department at the University Hospital Surgical Clinic to East Slovakian Institute for Coronary Diseases. The gift covers the purchase of special hospital beds for the Intensive Care Unit. The presentation event was also attended by SR Minister of Health Rudolf Zajac.

Korad in Frankfurt

Frankfurt-upon-Main was the venue from March 15th - 19th for one of the largest annual international trade fairs for heating systems, ventilation and air-conditioning technology and bathroom furnishings, ISH Frankfurt 2005. Among the 2350 exhibitors from 58 countries there was of course U. S. Steel Kosice, presenting the Korad range of panel radiators.

Metalurgia 2005

Preparations are in full swing now for the sixth in the series of annual student specialist research conferences, called Metalurgia 2005. This is organized every year by the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University in Kosice with the aim of supporting the development of the talents, creative thinking and capabilities of future steel-makers, and providing them with an opportunity to present their independent specialist activities. This event takes the form of a competition, entered during the course of its existence to date by more than 200 students from Slovakia and abroad as well, and is sponsored by U. S. Steel Kosice.

Refrako successful in Trinec

USSK subsidiary Refrako, whose business is producing refracrtory materials for the steel industry, is enjoying great success in establishing itself on our neighboring market in the Czech Republic. This is thanks to the quality of its products. Following the record achieved at the end of last month in the durability of the refractory lining of converter no.1 at the Třinec Steelworks - made from Refrako materials - in terms of the number of melts achieved in one campaign, the company gained another lucrative order with a successful tender for the contract to supply refractory materials for lining the second converter vessel. The composition of the refractory lining is based on a combination of materials resulting from consultations between the Kosice ceramics specialists and their partners in UEC Technologies LLC.

Vulkmont appreciates the best

The management of USSK subsidiary Vulkmont recently presented awards to its best employees for the year 2004, including voluntary blood donors and company team ice-hockey players. The venue for the informal meeting of this more than fifty-strong group on March 18th was USSK Blast Furnaces Division Training Center in Medzev. In his opening speech CEO Patrik Ivanisin emphasized the employees' contribution to the company's activities and its results, and thanked the blood donors for their sense of humanity and the sportsmen for their exemplary representation of the company.
