Kosice City Award for Christopher Navetta

Every year since 1995 the people of Kosice have celebrated together one of the most important events in the history of the city, when on May 7th 1369 King Ludovicus Magnus granted Kosice, as the first city in Europe, a warrant for a coat of arms. For ten years now this memorable day has been associated with the grand ceremony of presenting the City Awards and the Mayor's Awards and Plaques to individuals and groups who have contributed, through their actions in various areas, to the social and cultural development of Kosice and the spreading of the city's good name both within and beyond the borders of Slovakia.
This year the Municipal Council acknowleged the credit due to Christopher Navetta with regard to the city's development, granting him the Kosice City Award. This is his rightful reward for the extraordinary effort and personal commitment he has put into the completion of the new winter stadium, and supporting projects undertaken in the fields of culture, sport, health care and education, the majority of which have been intended for children and youth. Juraj Augustin, General Manager for Regional Development and Director of the Economic Development Center, received the Kosice City Mayor's Award for spreading the good name of the city and region abroad and his important work in the area of foreign investment.
The same award was given for the first time in the history of the Kosice steelworks to the workforce of U. S. Steel Kosice employees as a whole, for their demonstration of human feeling and participation in the financial collection organized by U. S. Steel Kosice in 2004 for the Kosice Rescue Service. The award was accepted on everyone's behalf by Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga. Among the eight individuals presented with Kosice City Mayor's Plaques was another steelworks employee, USSK East Markets Department staff member Anetta Smikova, rewarded for her extraordinary activity in the social sphere and charity work. The financial prizes accompanying the awards were donated to charity by all steelmakers.
