U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr visits Refrako

On Wednesday afternoon last week, U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr paid a working visit to Refrako together with Vice-president Strategic Implementation Anton Jura. This company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of U. S. Steel Kosice, and the only one whose commercial activities are based on manufacturing. Personally viewing the company's operations, the President familiarized himself with its production schedule, activities and plans for the future.
Accompanied by Refrako's Managing Director Gabriel Torhany and Commercial Manager Juraj Mondik, the USSK top managers first visited the Firebrick Plant, whose production schedule consists of making top-quality high-alumina fireclay and refractory concrete bricks and blocks and powdered aluminosilicate metallurgical and insulation materials, as well as a wide range of other building products used in the linings of steelmaking furnaces and converters. The plant is thriving thanks to the company's good sales and marketing policies, where quality is the keynote and the priority is to succeed despite the hard competition.
There is great interest in the Firebrick Plant's products at home and abroad, mainly in the neighboring Czech Republic, but also in Russia. Refrako was recently successful with their tender for a contract to supply refractory materials for steelmaking in the U. S. Steel Corporation. This will make the ompany the principal supplier of these materials for the works in Kosice and Serbia, and in the case of the USA, exclusive supplier of magnesia building materials for the Edgar Thompson operation at the Mon Valley Works and firebrick products for cokery plants throughout the Corporation.

Last Friday the summer internship participants joined company management representatives for a working meeting at which the students presented their impressions from their work experience. They stated generally that even temporary work for such a big firm had become a valuable source of new knowledge for their further studies.
