USSK film award

Last week U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr, Vice-president Operations Scott C. Pape and General Manager Environmental Tibor Duchonovic were in Bratislava attending the 32nd edition of the annual international specialist film festival EKOTOPFILM 2005, whose general sponsor was U. S. Steel Kosice. Various awards were presented at the festival. The Grand Prix of EKOTOPFILM 2005 was awarded to the German film called "Climate change or cataclysm?", and the U. S. Steel Kosice Award went to the American film "Another Wave - the Science of the Tsunami", which also gained the SR Foreign Ministry Award. This was by no means the end of the awards, and the winning films will be shown in the historical Town Hall on Main Street between November 8th to 10th, giving Kosice people a chance to see them.

Collection articles reach children

The collection of children's clothes, books and toys which was organized on the initiative of USSK President's wife Susan Lohr from October 17th to 21st attracted donations from 37 steelmakers at the collection point in the Company's Public Affairs building and from 110 contributors at the second collection point in the "Autumn of Life" civic association's senior citizens' club in the city. Altogether this made up 50 great boxes and two sacks of clothes and toys, and there were another 20 packages of books of various genres.
On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week the articles from the collection were presented personally to children in the Romintegra Center at Lunik 9 in Kosice, the Carer Service Unit of the Crisis Response Center in Cana, the Special Elementary Dormitory School in Zdana, and the children's homes in Secovce, Velke Kapusany, Mlynky-Biele Vody and Spissky Stiavnik. Them principal part in the success of the collection was played by the former steelworks employees, present-day pensioners and members of the senior citizens' club who shared in the organization of the collection.

Final meeting of long-serving employees

Friday, October 28th saw the fourth and final evening in the series of official congratulatory meetings for long-serving employees of U. S. Steel Kosice, who were celebrating 30, 35 and 40 years of work at the Kosice steelworks. The celebrators were joined by USSK President David H. Lohr, Vice-presidents Miroslav Kiralvarga, Martin Pitorak, James F. Connor, John B. Peters and Scott C. Pape, as well as other Company top managers.
The invitation was also accepted by Chairman of Metalurg U. S. Steel Kosice Trades Union Council Mikulas Dula. The tokens of gratitude presented to the employees were a letter of thanks from President David Lohr and a silver medal, which will be sources of pleasant memories for them of the years spent working for the Kosice steel company. In addition, the men and women who had completed 40 and 35 years respectively of work for the company received high-quality wristwatches from the President.

TEX EXPO - engineering, metallurgy, electrotechnology

The international technology and investment trade fair TEX EXPO will be taking place from November 9th to 11th at the Cassosport Hall in Kosice. During the accompanying investment conference named "The Potential of Contractor Relations", representatives of Slovak commercial entities will be able to attend a number of specialist presentations focusing on the theme of increasing entrepreneurial competitiveness in Eastern Slovakia by means of contractor relations with established foreign investor companies.
Staff from U. S. Steel Kosice will also be making a presentation on this theme. This year's TEX EXPO fair features 57 exhibitors representing 167 firms from Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The fair is also open to the public daily from 10am to 6pm, and U. S. Steel Kosice will be presenting its exhibition from this year's Brno Engineering Fair, which received an award for originality of marketing approach. The Economic Development Center (EDC), set up by USSK and responsible for attracting 14 foreign investors to Eastern Slovakia, will also have a stand at the fair.
