Best Power workers at working lunch with USSK President

The first to sit down this year for a working lunch with U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr were ten selected best employees of the Power Engineering division. This meeting, also attended by Vice-president Employee Relations and Motivation Martin Pitorak and Power Engineering Director Jan Petko, took place on Wednesday of last week, January 11th. The mutual getting to know each other was informal. The President talked to the employees about his working career and his family, but also about life in Slovakia. He said he feels very good here, and most of all he appreciates local people's cordiality. The Power workers replied to his comments in kind.

Travelogue series on the Holy Land and Jordan

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 19th, the KOS Gallery on Hviezdoslavova Street in Kosice is the venue for the first part in a series of travelogs on the Holy Land and Jordan. This event is organized by the Regional Education Center (KOS) in Kosice, starting at 5pm, and it is presented by traveler and photographer Stefan Demko.
With his gripping anecdotal style he will present to the audience first of all Jordan and the Sinai peninsula - the places where Moses led his people to away from slavery in Egypt - and in the following parts he will be dealing with other countries of the Holy Land and the Middle East. Stefan Demko, who works for U. S. Steel Kosice's Sales Department, started his traveling activities in the early 1980's. It is also important to mention the part he played in setting up the sporting events which are popular nowadays as the U. S. Steel Kosice Olympiad.

Sixth U. S. Steel Kosice Annual Ball

On Saturday, January 14th, Dom umenia in Kosice was the venue for what was now the 6th Annual Ball of U. S. Steel Kosice. It was attended by U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr and his wife, the Vice-presidents and other top managers of USSK with their spouses, and representatives of the city and local cultural and social life.

First subsidiary successful in certification audit

The joint-stock company OBAL-SERVIS has recently become the first of U. S. Steel Kosice's subsidiaries to successfully undergo a certification audit of its environmental management system in line with the standard STN EN ISO 14 001:2004. The audit was carried out by specialists from the RW TÜV certification company on January 9th and 10th, at the same time as the third renewal audit of the company's quality management system in line with the standard STN EN ISO 9001.

Opportunity for college students

Less than two weeks only now remain for third- and fourth-year college and university students who are interested in a paid internship at U. S. Steel Kosice during their summer vacation to submit their applications and personal resumes in both Slovak and English versions. The deadline is namely January 31st 2006.
Candidates will be expected to take an English language test by March 31st, and an interview in English before June 25th this year. Those who are successful in the selection process can look forward to a two-month internship in specific sections of Company management and in the divisions and plants of production operations themselves. The students will each have their own supervisor, who will look after their progress.
The aim of this program is that during their internship the students should become familiar with U. S. Steel Kosice as a company, its vision, values, management style and production process. At the same time, another aspect of the internship will be the development of the participants' management annd leadership skills, which will also be assessed.
