Meetings with President in May

Employees' meetings with U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr and other Company top managers will be taking place during the week from May 9th to 12th 2006, in the now traditional venue of the Handball Hall at the All-Sports Area in Kosice. More detailed information about the agenda of the meetings, transport arrangements and other questions associated with the compulsory attendance will be published in the following issues of Ocel Vychodu.

Guests from Pittsburgh

A working visit to U. S. Steel Kosice took place from March 21st to 24th involving a group of American managers from U. S. Steel Corporation headquarters in Pittsburgh. The twelve-member team was led by Thomas W. Sterling, Senior Vice-president Human Resources and Eugen P. Trudell, Vice-president Business Services. The focus of attention of the American specialists was the information technology area. The guests also made use of their time in Kosice to tour some of the Company's operations. They looked round the plants of the Hot and Cold Strip Mills and the construction site for the new galvanizing line no.3.

HR Infocenter is here for everybody

Early this month Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga presented the new operational model of human resources services provision, which radically changes the familiar procedures used until recently. One of these fundamental changes means that from now on all services associated with human resources will be provided for individual employees and organizational units alike from a single contact point.. The services of the Human Resources Infocenter, which forms part of Front Office, are gradually becoming familiar to our employees. The questions they are sending in, whether by telephone or via e-mail, are remarkably varied. They are interested for example in the opportunities on offer in the internal employment market, job vacancies, student work opportunities and summer internship conditions, or how to proceed when submitting an application for transfer to another workplace.

Decisive victory by our sales staff

Since 2003 March has been the traditional month for an ice-hockey confrontation between the teams of U. S. Steel Kosice's sales staff and Czech customers with their invited guest players. This time the new Steel Arena was the venue last week for the fifth in this series of mutual encounters between the Cassovia Stars and Bohemia Steelers teams, for which there was free entry for our employees and members of their families.
Many of them came to this match out of curiosity, to see with their own eyes Kosice's new and beautiful sports and cultural events venue, but also to watch the duel between our recreational hockey players from U. S. Steel Kosice and representatives of the firms USSK Bohemia, IT Bohemia, Ferona, Metal Trade Bohemia, KK Metal, Metalimex and Korado. The meeting was introduced in official fashion, starting with the Czech, American and Slovak national anthems, followed by speeches to both teams and the spectators from U. S. Steel Kosice Vice-president Commercial John B. Peters and Company President David H. Lohr. The President then also started the match itself by throwing the puck for the first bully between team captains Miroslav Madar and Peter Uhrik.
The game was dominated from the outset by our team, the Cassovia Stars, which ultimately, after a brilliant performance by all the players, defeated the Bohemia Steelers in convincing fashion by eight goals to two (2:0, 1:0, 5:2). Then, similarly as in previous encounters, ten players from each team took turns in a penalty shoot-out. On this occasion this contest ended in a 3:3 draw.
