New school year starts

On Tuesday, September 2nd, the new school year began in Slovakia, including at the Secondary Technical School for Metallurgy in Kosice and at the Secondary Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca. During the schoolyear 2008/2009 the Technical School will be attended by 550 students, 90 of whom are first-graders. The classrooms in Saca will see 160 first-graders and 620 students in the higher grades. Just next week 261 third- and fourth-graders begin what is termed their specialist work experience at U. S. Steel Kosice. The best of them will have the chance of gaining employment with the Company.

College students finish summer internship

For the best part of 60 young people, fourth-year college students mostly majoring in metallurgy, engineering, electrotechnology or economics, last week saw the end of their summer internship at U. S. Steel Kosice. As is now the tradition, they finished with presentations of solutions to the case-studies they had been working on, divided into nine groups, since mid-August. The jury, chaired by USSK Vice President Management Services and Administration Miroslav Kiralvarga, decided that the best solutions were presented by team no. 9, consisting of Anna Egresiova, Lucia Matejcikova, Janko Peter, Gabriel Dobos, Ladislav Lorincz, Lukas Galestok and Jaromir Fotta.

Steelmakers paint with artists

The visual arts plein-air meeting named "Steelmakers paint with artists", which began in Medzev last Friday, August 29th, finishes tomorrow, September 5th. This event, organized by U. S. Steel Kosice for the third time now, brought together eight steelworks employees who enjoy painting and drawing in their leisure time, and five professional artists and art teachers. The theme of this year's workshop is the environment, and the artworks created by the participants will be presented to the public at an exhibition in Kosice starting on October 3rd.

Designers to exhibit works in metal

The Slovak Technical Museum in Kosice is putting on a public exhibition until October 5th of works created by the designers who took part in the seventh edition of the annual international workshop named Metal Inspirations from August 20th to 29th this year. This exhibition presents metal creations by 21 students and teachers from six universities in Germany, Hungary, Scotland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in a collection of 39 artefacts motivated by the theme of this year's event - Welcome to Kosice as well as by the effort to sustain a safe and healthy environment.. The workshop was co-organized by U. S. Steel Kosice, Technical University Kosice and the Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca.
