U. S. Steel Kosice successfully completes preregistration

The new European chemicals legislation known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) stipulates that we can continue producing, importing and using chemical substances only if we promptly preregister and then fully register these chemicals. The process of preregistration, which includes the submission of the required information by the potentially registering party, began on June 1st of this year and ended on Monday of this week, December 1st 2008. This process has also been successfully completed by U. S. Steel Kosice. Preregistration of substances, according to USSK REACH Director Petra Kralova, entitles the Company to make use of the temporary registration period to continue producing and selling chemicals without changes during this time.

Where and how we're going to live

U. S. Steel Kosice in cooperation with the Sosna Civic Association has announced the sixth edition of the annual grant program entitled "Where and how we're going to live". The goal of this program is to increase children's ecological awareness and stimulate their interest in taking care of and protecting the environment.
Last year's competition for grants enabling the implementation of projects focusing on protection of the atmosphere, water and the countryside, and on the sorting and collecting of waste materials, was entered by 52 elementary schools in the Kosice Region. Six ecological proposals were selected by the panel of judges and gained financial suport for their implementation. In the new edition the organizers will be supporting the practical activity of children and youth groups not only within their school grounds, but also in the community they live in.

Steel company supports not-for-profit organizations

For the third time now, as part of the Kosice Christmas Market, this Friday, December 5th, a hut will also be opened downtown on Main Street by U. S. Steel Kosice. The Company is providing space this year to seventeen not-for-profit organizations working in the city, so that they can inform the public about their activities in the humanitarian, social, charity and health-care fields. Then the citizens of Kosice and visitors to the city can contribute towards the activities of these organizations.
