ZERO injuries for almost 70 days

July is the second month in the row for U. S. Steel Kosice with zero injury results, thus overcoming the last-year record of 66 days without recordable injury. As of August 02, 2011 at 12:00 a.m., the company reported 68 days without injury.

Coil packaging line from Kosice heads to Serbia

In a short time, our Serbian colleagues will start to package tinplated coils on a new packaging line and thus will increase productivity and decrease packaging material cost. Kosice steelmakers will install the line in Sabac this month in cooperation with Czech and Austrian partners. Tilting line equipment manufactured by OBAL-SERVIS has been painted and packed and is ready for transport. It represents another step towards packaging type unification in the European USS facilities, aimed to improve packaging quality and product identity.

Heading towards new occupational safety culture

The employee representatives at HRM division have been testing a new system for monitoring of the employee safety representatives since May 2011. Those involved evaluated the pilot project in previous days as very positive, making the process more transparent. Following the evaluation, the system will be gradually applied at other USSK divisions. Required training of the employee representatives and managers has commenced last week.

Young talents in the Summer Ice-Hockey School

The 5th annual Summer Ice-Hockey School for young talents finished on Friday, July 30th, 2011. The young people were given an opportunity to improve their skills during the summer vacation under guidance of experts from the National Championship title winning ice-hockey club HC Kosice. Total 62 boys and girls, including the children engaged in the program "Your Chance to Play", had met at the intensive trainings during weekdays under guidance of professional coaches. On the last day of the Summer Ice-Hockey School supported also by U. S. Steel Kosice, the children were awarded with attendance diplomas handed over by HC Kosice President Mr. Vladimir Jacko and Vice President USSK External Services and Relations Management, Mrs. Elena Petraskova.
