Banska Stiavnica comes alive with Miners' Day Celebrations

The culmination of the Salamander Days, through which ancient Banska Stiavnica recalls its glorious mining tradition in early September every year, is the national Day of Miners, Geologists, Metallurgists and Oilmen. This year's celebration of the professional festivities, including awards for long-serving employees, took place last Friday, September 7, and was attended by the President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gasparovic.
The badge of honor of the Minister for Trade and Industry SR "For working loyalty" was presented among others to nine employees of U. S. Steel Kosice: Frantisek Satek, heating plant machine maintenance foreman at the Power Engineering Division, Milos Macinga, Hot Rolling Mill Shipping operation supervisor, Milan Madzin, machine fitter for bearing assembly maintenance at the Hot Rolling Mill Division, Jozef Kolbasky, operations machine fitter at the Maintenance Division, Milan Demko, quality management technician and shift supervisor at the mechanical testing unit of U. S. Steel Kosice subsidiary Labortest, s.r.o., Milan Matta, research and development staff member at USSE R&D Unit (now retired), Frantisek Kukurugya, molten iron production process coordinator at the Blast Furnaces Division (retired since July of this year), Tibor Nagy, slag management foreman at the Blast Furnaces Division (now retired), and Jozef Csurkó, foreman at OBAL-SERVIS, a.s. Kosice (retired since July of this year).

U. S. Steel Kosice exhibits at Brno Fair

This Monday, September 10, saw the beginning of the International Engineering Fair 2012 in Brno, Czech Republic. This is the most important industrial trade fair in Central Europe, and U. S. Steel Kosice is participating once again. Presence at this five-day event means an opportunity for the Company to strengthen relations with existing business partners, and to gain new contacts with other potential clients. USSK's exhibition is being run in the spirit of the motto "Close To You", and the stand with an area of 150 square meters has the shape of a coil.

Week of Ethics and Maintaining Principles

U. S. Steel Kosice has joined with all the operations of the U. S. Steel Corporation in the world and is holding a Week of Ethics and Maintaining Principles from September 17 to 21 this year. During this special week, steelmakers will be able to watch a video in which the Vice Presidents of U. S. Steel Kosice speak about ethical issues, and every employee will be receiving an updated USSK Code of Ethical Conduct, whose content steelmakers themselves have shared in composing.

Designers exhibit works created during Metal Inspirations Workshop

More than forty pieces of work created by 24 designers from five European countries, participants in the recent Metal Inspirations international workshop, make up the exhibition which will be open to the public until October 7 in the premises of the University Library at the Technical University of Kosice. These metal artworks were created by young designers and their teachers from various art colleges in the workshops of the Secondary Specialist School in Kosice-Saca, during the first round-figure edition, the tenth year of this event supported by U. S. Steel Kosice.

USSK employees' Summer Games commence

At the end of this week, from September 13 to 15, the 22nd edition of U. S. Steel Kosice employees' Summer Games will be taking place. As a prolog to the event there was a golf tournament at Alpinka on Sunday, September 9, with 23 golfers taking part. The best part of 880 employees will be competing in 11 sporting disciplines this coming weekend.
