Kosice City Award for George F. Babcoke

The Kosice City Day celebrations culminated last Wednesday, May 7, with an official ceremony incorporating the presentation of awards to individuals and groups who have contributed in a significant way to the development of the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia. This year the members of the City Council voted to confer the Kosice City Award to twelve individuals and three groups altogether. One of those individuals is U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke, for his special efforts in support of the Kosice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project and his personal commitment to setting up the Steel Park/Creative Factory.
The audience filling the Great Chamber of the Historical Town Hall heard the following presentation before the President of the Kosice steelworks received his award: "George F. Babcoke has more than thirty years of experience working in the steelmaking industry. Since July 1, 2013 he has been in the position of President of U. S. Steel Kosice for the second time. Initially he was President of the Kosice steelmaking company in the period from March 1, 2008 until December 31, 2010. He was enthusiastic about the Kosice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project because he saw great potential in it for the further development of the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia. He was one of the initiators setting up the Coalition 2013+, aiming to gain as many partners as possible for the project and make effective use of the accumulated human, material and financial resources."
George F. Babcoke received his award from Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi and Deputy Mayors Renata Lenartova and Jan Jakubov, and then signed his entry in the City Chronicle.
