Nine Kosice steelmakers gain ministerial decorations

Banska Stiavnica, the most beautiful old mining town in Slovakia, inscribed in UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage List, was the venue last week for the Salamander Days, official celebrations of the town's rich history and traditions. Nowadays it is not possible to imagine this event, which has been held every year since 1991, without the celebration of Miners', Geologists', Steelmakers' and Oilmen's Day, renewed with nationwide coverage nearly two decades ago. This year's event took place on September 12, attended by SR national Council members, Minister for Environment Peter Ziga, State Secretaries of the Ministry for Trade and Industry Miroslav Obert and the Ministry for Employment, Social Affairs and Family Branislav Ondrus, President of the Association of Metallurgy, Mining Industries and Geology Vladimir Jacko, President of the Confederation of Labor Unions Jozef Kollar, and other guests including a group of steelmakers led by U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke.
Moral recognition of professional skills, personal commitment, working and personal values in the form of medals of honor from the SR Minister for Trade and Industry "For Devotion to Work" and "For Loyalty to Work" were presented by State Secretary Miroslav Obert and President of the Labor Union for Mines, Geology and Oil Industry Jozef Skrobak to nine employees of U. S. Steel Kosice: Mikulas Hintos (KOVO Labor Union), Michal Hlipala (Cold Rolling Mill Division), Karol Kohut (OBAL-SERVIS), Ladislav Kopka (Power Engineering Division), Jozef Koscelnik (RMS, a.s.), Julius Nemeth (Shipping Division), Marian Pulik (Blast Furnaces Division), Marko Rentka (Equipment Reliability) and Pavol Szciranka (Power Engineering Division).
