U. S. Steel Kosice is the largest East Slovakian company and one of the largest companies in Slovakia as a whole. The company significantly contributes to GDP growth and has a major impact on the Slovak economy and on Slovak society overall.
Understanding its position, U. S. Steel Kosice takes a responsible approach to providing information about itself, its goals, objectives and its activities. One of the ways of obtaining direct information is to visit the company.
For this purpose U. S. Steel has set up its own VISITORS CENTER, intended to provide services to the following categories of visitors:
- Current and prospective customers
- Government and other state representatives
- Media representatives
- Commercial, research and other professional organizations
- Educational institutions (Universities, Colleges - for students up 18 years old)
- Employees
THE VISITORS CENTER provides:
- Presentation of the company, for example through plant tours, audio-visual information and printed material
- Co-ordination of visits and plant tours with all U. S. Steel Kosice Departments and Divisions
- Safety instruction and required safety equipment for the plant tours
- Entrance passes into the plant area and transportation for tour participants.
The VISITORS CENTER was established in June 2002, and from that time it has arranged hundreds of visits for thousands of visitors. All visitors have the opportunity to learn about delivery and processing of primary raw materials, coke production in coking batteries and various ways of processing iron ore into sinter. Next they can view raw iron production in the blast furnaces and steel production in the converters. Visitors follow the steel as it is cast into slabs, through the hot rolling mill and all the way to making rolled steel coils. In the cold rolling mill they learn several processes - pickling, cold rolling, annealing, dynamo steel processing, galvanizing and color-coating. In the tin mill, material is finalized and the product is made fit for food can production. In the Radiators and Pipes Division Plant, visitors have the opportunity to see conversion of hot rolled coils into spirally welded pipes and cold rolled coils into radiators, well-known from our offices and homes.
