A firefighter at work, then a coach

Ľubomír Mitrik from our company fire department literally lives by the mission of a firefighter. He is a firefighter at work and in his free time. In the Drienov Volunteer Fire Brigade (DHZo Drienov), he works not only as a member of the intervention unit, but also as a fire sports coach. And as a coach, he has something to boast about. His charges have already had many successes and recently became the winners of the Territorial Competition of Youth and Adults DPO SR Prešov and subsequently the vice-champions of the region.

"I enjoy fire sports very much and I devote a lot of free time to it. I'm often somewhere with young people. My son is also a firefighter and also competes. He is just as passionate as I am, on the day he got married, he considered competing in the morning and going to the wedding in the afternoon, but I have already said that my mother will "throw us out"," says Ľubomír.

On the track, he notices all the teams, compares what they are better at. Over the years, he has had his "gadgets". She devotes herself fully to coaching, prepares tools for her charges at home, sharpens them, embellishes them so that they are exactly "in the hand". About recent successes, he says:

"These are wonderful achievements, indescribable. And yet we didn't even count on them. The territorial round took place in Drienov. In the morning in the dressing room, the boys resolutely said that they would fight for victory on home soil. In both scoring disciplines, fire attack and relay, they had the best times. This victory moved us to the regional round in Brekov, where we became the vice-champions of the Prešov region in the competition of 40 teams.“

They were 2.5 seconds short of the championship title. They also have a decent fan club - 48 fans from Drienov came to Brekov near Humenné to cheer them on - more than the locals. With a fire attack from the regional round, they advance to the Šariš Cup in Becherov, where they will compete on August 22.

Ľubomír Mitrik is a firefighter at heart and likes to pass on his experience to younger people. He also accepted a new challenge, he is going to coach the girls from Lemeša, who advanced to the Slovak Championships and asked him for help with preparation.

We keep our fingers crossed and wish him many more coaching successes.
