Yesterday, the wives of our foreign managers Allison Revello, Snežana Stefanovic, Sanae Takamatsu, Maya Takekawa and Zuzana Hathaway visited the production facilities of U. S. Steel Košice.

Accompanied by František Gregor from Public Affairs, they took a tour of the company, visited the Steel Shop, the Hot Rolling Mill, the Cold Rolling Mill and the Galvanizing Line No. 3.

After the tour, which lasted more than three hours, we asked them what impressions they take away from visiting the plant:

Allison Revello: (second row from left)

It was very interesting to see the production facilities. It fascinates me when I see how people create something, whether it's art or steel.  I was also surprised by how many workers do the hard work.

Snežana Stefanovič: (second from the left in the second row)

It was amazing to see that the plant is like in a city within a city and the distances we covered during the tour. Everything is very well organized. We had an excellent explanation about the production process; I liked it here.

Sanae Takamatsu: (second row right)

The factory tour was a very worthwhile experience. Watching the red-hot iron flow past me, and then seeing it quickly cooled with water, it was incredibly hot, impressive, and exciting. I was surprised to see it so close. It was also fascinating to see the process of the iron hanging up and down as it was being processed, and to see the final product in roll form.

As we were able to observe each stage of the process at close places, I could even sense the temperature and smell, allowing me to experience the manufacturing process in a truly dynamic way. When I hear the word ‘steelworks’, I imagine molten iron, so the converter was the most interesting for me.

Zuzana Hathaway: (front row right)

I was excited about everything, but most of all about the quality control in the galvanizing line. Overall, I liked the galvanizing plant the most. And then there's the packaging. The whole thing was interesting.

At the meeting that followed the tour, our guests learned about the activities and projects organized or covered by Public Affairs. It was also an opportunity to ask the wives of Japanese managers who have been here for a short time how they feel in Košice.

Sanae Takamatsu: „Thanks to everyone's support, I'm living comfortably in Košice.“   Maya Takekawa:  „In Tokyo, where we used to live, there are always so many people, whether we’re taking trains or going somewhere, but Košice is a quiet place with no crowds, and there’s plenty of nature nearby, so I can spend my time feeling completely relaxed. I’m having a lovely time here because people here are very friendly, including the USS staff. “
