Kosice, September 2nd, 2010 - Today the new U. S. Steel Kosice truck terminal opening ceremony was held beside Gate #4. The creation of this new truck parking lot and terminal located away from the main road between Saca and Haniska will improve road transport safety and increase the quality of services for the truck drivers. As U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke emphasized during the opening ceremony, "this parking lot brings a new quality standard not only to the nearby villages' inhabitants but also for our customers and suppliers. It also improves efficiency in logistics of material loading. Our main goal was to improve the clarity and safety of road transport in the vicinity of our steelworks." The opening ceremony was also attended by Kosice City Mayor Frantisek Knapik and Sokolany village mayor Tomas Suchy along with mayors of other nearby villages.

The project construction worth nearly EUR 2.7M started on June 1st and on August 30th it was brought into trial operation, the purpose of which is to verify the functionality of all of its components. Drivers will have access to a room with three registration terminals utilizing touch-screens providing the drivers with communication in 14 different languages. The parking lot covering 17 000m2 is large enough to hold 53 trucks, and is equipped with an outdoor LED information panel. All U. S. Steel Kosice engineering units have participated in the project preparation and implementation. The general contractor for the project was Eurovia, a.s., while the large-format information panel was supplied by Kybernetika, s.r.o.
