Protective angle-pieces from plastic

U. S. Steel Košice's subsidiary company OBAL-SERVIS has supported the Carnegie Way transformation process with an interesting project involving the replacement of metal protective angle-pieces used in coil packaging with plastic ones, which will lead to significant cost-savings every year. There was close cooperation on this project between teams from the Shipping, Procurement and USSE Customer Technical Services divisions. After completing the training the coil packagers started replacing the standard protective angle-pieces made from NKK galvanized sheet with new ones made from plastic. As well as being cheaper, these represent almost waste-free technology.

New safety feature on overalls

The first group of around 150 employees in primary operations divisions is now checking the use in practice of a new safety feature on their working clothes. The back of their overalls shows the text: If you see me doing something dangerous, STOP ME. The aim of this initiative is to improve employees' awareness and observation of their colleagues, their own or from outside, when they are carrying out their working tasks. If anybody sees another employee engaged in some dangerous activity, or if they think the person may be threatened in some way which s/he is unaware of at that moment, then the words STOP ME should encourage them to warn their colleague about their dangerous actions or the dangerous working conditions.
