U. S. Steel Kosice supports two social institutions

The Lienka (Ladybird) Children's Home and the Special Boarding Elementary School in Velke Kapusany, with 182 young residents, have been in existence for 13 years. They form a joint establishment for children receiving institutional education by law, and at present they are undergoing transformation into family-type residential units. The Home is struggling with financial problems, the same sort of problems troubling the Children's Home in Vranov nad Toplou, which lacks the resources to complete the reconstruction work involved in its own transformation into a family-type residential home. U. S. Steel Kosice has decided to help both institutions as part of its charitative activities, intending by this action at least to improve the life of those who feel most acutely the absence of their own parents' love and family life. On Sunday evening, November 30th, the House of Art in Kosice was the venue for a charity benefit concert named Autumn Harmony, attended by personalities of social and cultural life and by representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice management. This concert was organized in support of charity projects, under the patronage of SR Minister of Culture Rudolf Chmel, by the 1st Lions Club Kosice in cooperation with U. S. Steel Kosice, VSE a.s. Kosice and V.O.D.S. a.s. Kosice. The audience heard performances by the Kosice State Philharmonia led by Dusan Stefanek, opera conductor at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava; Martin Malachovsky, SNT opera soloist; Tristan Willems, brass instumentalist from the USA; and Dusana Blaskova, a non-sighted 4th-year student at St.Thomas Aquinas Grammar School in Kosice, playing the flute. The intervals between individual artistes' performances proceeded in the spirit of generosity: "We are very pleased that with this modest action at least we can help the children's homes of Eastern Slovakia, in particular those in Vranov nad Toplou and Velke Kapusany," said U. S. Steel Kosice Vice-president for IT Peter Richardson at the concert on behalf of the Company.
