THE JUBILEE 20TH YEAR OF THE VOLUNTEER EVENT Steelmakers FOR KOŠICE TooK PLACE ON MAY 29 - 30, 2026.
The event started on May 29, 2026 with the traditional Steelmakers' Drop of Blood, as well as a collection of clothes and useful items for charity centers. On Saturday, May 30, volunteers participated in work activities for the benefit of other institutions. The aim of USSK Volunteer Days, also known as Steelmakers for Košice, is to give an opportunity to our employees to join in philanthropic activities and together with the company help the local community and the region in their development.
301 volunteers participated in the event and worked a total of 1,259 volunteer hours.

Preparing the terrain for the creation of a wetland habitat, move and process and rake the excavated topsoil. Casting of a new concrete area in greenhouse. Treatment of park benches (sanding and new coat of paint), renewal of park paths, weeding. Preparing of substrates for planting, planting plants.

KOŠICE ZOO
Cleaning the area from self-seeded trees and shrubs above the breeding facility for lynxes, towards the breeding facility for bison. Painting metal fences and installing benches in the vicinity of the breeding facility for bison.

Čermeľ station: switch signals renovation, renewal of the driver's cabin on the Janka locomotive, cleaning the drainage channel.
Alpinka station: renewal of wooden elements of the trolley depot, replacing the damaged benches, work on the terrace by the trolley oval, installing safety fencing around the platform.

ANIMAL SHELTER
Building two new shelters in dogs' enclosures. Saw and store firewood. Moving gravel to the paddocks. Dismantle the old fence and install new 3D fence parts. Apply protective coatings to shelters, benches and a gazebo, paint the fencing. Gardening work, mowing.

This location is covered by volunteers from the trade union organization.
Washing windows on the ground floor, exterior painting of the fence and entrance canopy, auxiliary construction work in the interior, preparation and consolidation of the terrain for the construction of an outdoor parking lot.

Notes for participants:
- Employees (of USSK and subsidiaries) and managers are cordially invited to join in the USSK Volunteer Days. They can come as individuals or as working teams and support team-building. Adult family members are welcome as well, since every helping hand is appreciated.
- A promotion campaign has been prepared in The X App Košice and USSK intranet/internet. Registration starts via intranet or X App Košice in the middle of April and continue until the volunteer capacities are reached, or until May 15 at the latest. Registration is necessary to arrange the proper amount of work for volunteers, working tools, T-shirts and small packed refreshments. If you have any problem with registration, ask your assistants to help you, or do not hesitate to call or mail the coordinator of the selected activity. When registering a team, it is advised to register each employee individually because there will be a prize draw after the event.
- Volunteers are invited to come in proper safe clothing, long trousers and sturdy laced shoes, and work safely to prevent any injury. USSK will provide special safety equipment where necessary.
- The types of work are intended for adult volunteers, but teenagers, similarly as at home, can help their parents. Parents with children younger than 12 years should register for the Zoo, where baby-sitters will be arranged to allow small children to stay and play while a parent is working.
- Those registered for places outside Košice (Zoo, animal shelter) might use minibus transportation if there are more than ten people interested. Inform the activity coordinator if you are interested, please. Minibus usually leaves at 7.30 am from the parking lot next to the Amphitheater.
Steelmakers for Košice 2025:
Let's remember last year's Volunteer Days, which were held on May 23rd -24th, 2025. At the event known as Steelmakers for Košice participated 346 volunteers. Together they worked 1,380 volunteer hours.

One of the places where we helped during the Volunteer Days was the Forrest Gump Club, where adults with disabilities meet.
When a willingness to help with a long-term partnership is combined, good things are created.
We did a good job in the botanical garden on Saturday.
On Saturday, forty volunteers came to improve the environment in the dog shelter in Haniska near Košice. Several of them with family members, including children.
On Friday, the steelworkers increased blood supplies for those who need it by 25 liters. 57 donors, two of whom were first-time donors, participated in the Steelmakers' Drop of Blood, which took place in our Entrance Area at the polyclinic of the AGEL Košice – Šaca Hospital.
Members of the trade union OZ KOVO will traditionally meet at the in the day care center and help them with reconstruction of their premises.
The jubilee 20th year of the Metallurgists for Košice event will take place on May 29 and 30. During both days, you will be able to donate clothes or other useful things for people in a difficult life situation.
On Saturday, May 30, let's help beautify the environment of CDR on Hurbanova Street, where children and young adults live, with the Metallurgists for Košice event.
