Christopher Navetta meets KRC Chairman Rudolf Bauer

Evaluation of joint projects and coordination of future activities were the main topics at the first official meeting between U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta and Kosice Regional Council Chairman Rudolf Bauer, which took place in the Council offices on Wednesday of last week (September 8th).
"Our relations with U. S. Steel Kosice are a worthy example of public-private partnership for dealing with social issues, established on the basis of joint discussions. I'm very pleased that such a partnership exists here in the eastern region, and that U. S. Steel is involved in it," said Rudolf Bauer. He went on to observe that the presence of an American investor in Kosice brings many advantages to this region. The management of U. S. Steel Kosice plans to sign an agreement on partnership and cooperation with the Kosice Regional Council by the end of this year, in which specific projects will be specified every year.

Dermatoscope examinations free of charge

Through the U. S. Steel Kosice Foundation the Dermatology Department of the Kosice-Saca Hospital, the first private hospital in Slovakia, has acquired a unique machine - a digital dermatoscope. This can reveal all the processes and changes that go on in a so-called birth-mark, and it enables early diagnosis of cancerous skin tumors. U. S. Steel Kosice has reached an agreement with the hospital in Saca providing all steelworks employees with examinations free of charge on this machine. The number of examinations is limited, though, so in the event of a high level of interest, priority will be given to employees working in high-risk workplaces.

Kiddy-car playground at the All-Sports Center in Kosice

The original idea from the U. S. Steel Kosice President's wife Phyllis Navetta, to build a multi-functional playground for Kosice children, is just now after seeking and finding a suitable location being converted into reality. After several negotiations between U. S. Steel Kosice and city ward Kosice-South, the old children's playground at the All-Sports Center, which has lain out of use for all of 15 years, is growing again as a children's sports and entertainment center. Part of it is once again to be a kiddy-car playground, laid out in streets with realistic road signs and markings, and its complete reconstruction has been taken care of by the Kosice steelmakers. This new playground should have its grand opening day at the beginning of October.
