Cowell finds new post very interesting

There is a new manager in the sector of the Vice-president Commercial. This is Brian Cowell, who started on March 1st this year as Marketing and Strategic Planning Manager, taking over from Steve Powers. Brian Cowell has come to Kosice from the parent company, where he has worked since 1992 in the automobile industry group. Ocel Vychodu asked him for his first impressions of Slovakia and his new work. He says the new post is interesting because it covers such a number of different markets and countries, and he believes it will give him good experience.

U. S. Steel Kosice Gallery to show best works next month

The creativity competition for U. S. Steel Kosice employees which was announced by the Director of Public Affairs in October of last year has attracted entries from 25 workers. Altogether they have entered more than 160 works of art, looking for winning placings in four categories: painting, sculpture, textile creation and craftwork. Last week saw the judging of the competition entries by the jury, composed of painter Stefan Filep, art historian Jozef Kravec, sculptor Rudolf Hofer, restorer Ladislav Skovran, textile artist Janka Onuskova and painter Dusan Balaz. The greatest number of entries was in the painting category, with 80 works put in by employees. Forty-eight works vied for first place in the textile creation category. The competition for the best piece of craftwork involved 20 works, and 16 works, predominantly woodcarvings, were put forward by their creators in the sculpture category.

Gastrobar is a novelty

Aficionados of rational nutrition will surely be pleased by the novelty which catering company Gastrometal is introducing for meal-takers at the U. S. Steel Kosice Public Access Area canteen. From today, May 4th, it is opening a gastrobar as part of the canteen facilities that will be serving rational nutrition meals. Everyone will be able to choose a combination of dishes from the daily menu according to their personal taste.

More events like this

On April 23rd and 24th, for the first time in the history of recreational sport by steelworks employees, the company championships in ten-pin bowling were held. There was great interest in this sport. The groups of separate three-member teams featured many experienced traditional skittles players, but there were also many competitors who had decided to try out bowling for the first time. After a short coaching session they got on fairly well. The first winners in the individuals' competition were - for the women, Andrea Sadecka, representing the Transport Sales team, and the men's champion was Kyle Frascarelli from the Automotive team.

The 50th Spring Music Festival begins

The opening concert of the 50th Kosice Spring Music Festival resounded in the House of Art on Thursday of last week, April 28th. The audience, which included representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice, the event's principal sponsor, were treated to performances by the Kosice State Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Oliver Dohnanyi and two soloists, violinist Dalibor Karvay and mezzosoprano Alina Gurina. This superb concert opened a series of musical encounters culminating on May 27th with the final concert featuring Mozart's Requiem performed by the Slovak Philharmonia, the Slovak Philharmonic Choir and guest soloists.
