HDG3 Opening Ceremony Arrangements

Testing of the new investment, that will be ceremonially opened in September, has begun in November last year. The first galvanized coil was produced on February 09. Amount of galvanized material had been gradually increased to 6000 ton of high-quality material as the line continues to undergo complex testing, as said by the company President Mr. David Lohr during his meeting with Labor Union representatives. The line capacity - 20 thousand ton per month, should be reached in October - November 2007.

New specialized classroom at Luník IX

A new specialized classroom was opened this Monday, April 23rd, at the L. Podjavorinska Elementary School in the Lunik IX neighborhood in Kosice by representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice and the City of Kosice. This classroom is equipped with the latest teaching aids, and the eighth and ninth grade pupils were welcomed here by U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr and Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga, and Kosice City Mayor Frantisek Knapik accompanied by his deputies Mikulas Cecko and Marek Vargovcak. The new classroom was also visited by the pupils' parents and neighborhood residents who are involved in USSK's employment program for socially-disadvantaged groups.

First Spring Music Festival concert next week

Just a week from today, on May 2nd, the first tones will be heard in the 52nd Kosice Spring Music Festival. USSK is General Partner. This international festival is organized by the Kosice State Philharmonic Orchestra, and this year once again it will be an opportunity to experience genuine artistry and encounter some world-class performers. Lovers of high-quality music can look forward to a rich program. Three of the thirteen evening performances will even be outside of Kosice, as the Philharmonia is going to play for the people of Spisska Nova Ves, Velke Kapusany and Secovce. The events prepared in Kosice are five symphony concerts, five chamber orchestras, one literary evening, an organ concert, and an exhibition.

Record number of entries for the bowling championships

The fact that ten-pin bowling has established permanent roots among the sports included in the U. S. Steel Kosice Summer Olympics was confirmed for us all once again at the recent Company bowling championships, which took place at the end of last week at the now traditional venue of the four-lane Bowling Pub up at the KVP neighborhood in Kosice. Following the trial "zero" edition in 2005 and last year's first official championship event, the interest shown by Company employees reached another record level. There was a total of 329 entries from people all keen to win the precious trophies, not only in the individual tournament, but also in the competitions for three-member men's, women's and mixed teams.

Kosice City Day

The month of May in Kosice is now traditionally associated with the Kosice Day celebrations, and this year will be no different. From May 1st to 7th, the organizers have prepared two rounds of various cultural and social events, which will also be celebrating the 3rd anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the European Union. On Monday, May 7th, the Kosice City Days culminate in a grand ceremony including the official presentation of the City Awards and Kosice City Mayor's Awards. This will be taking place, as is now customary, in the historical Town hall on the Main Street. Opera lovers can look forward to an early-evening open-air concert by the Immaculata monument, starting at 4 pm the same day. These celebrations are also being sponsored by U. S. Steel Kosice.

Steel Arena celebrates its first annniversary

The first year of successful activity in Kosice's newly-reconstructed ice stadium will be celebrated this Saturday, April 28th, when the Steel Arena opens at 6 pm for the magnificent Racing Fest Show. As Ocel Vychodu heard from Steel Arena Manager Igor Havrila, during the past twelve months 24 ice-hockey Extra League competition matches and five friendly games have been played here, watched by a total of 152 000 spectators. Besides these the Arena has been the venue for nine significant concert performances and social events.
