Vladimir Jacko becomes president of AMMIG SR

Due to his new professional appointment overseas, on February 17th Miroslav Kiralrga stepped down from the post of President and gave up his membership of the Executive Board of the Association of Metallurgy, Mining Industry and Geology of the Slovak Republic (AMMIG SR). At its meeting on the same date, the Executive Board accepted his resignation and unanimously elected Vladimir Jacko as new President, currently also a Board member and U. S. Steel Kosice Vice President Technology. At the same time the Board also co-opted Elena Petraskova as a new member, who as of March 1st, 2011 is the new USK Vice President Management Services and Administration.

Together for the Region Grant Program runs again

In the last few days U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation announced the running of the fourth edition of the annual grant program entitled Together For The Region 2011, which offers non-profit organizations and local government bodies in the Kosice and Presov regions the opportunity to gain financial resources in support of public-benefit activities. In the last three years a total of 33 projects have been given the green light in this program.

New Dean for Faculty of Metallurgy at TU KE

After eight years in office, Karel Tomasek has stepped down from the post of Dean of the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University of Kosice. In his place the Academic Senate has elected Peter Hornak, and he has been officially appointed to this post with effect from February 1st, 2011 to January 31st, 2015 by the Rector of the Technical University, Anton Cizmar. The new Dean assumed his post after the inauguration ceremony on February 1st, attended by representatives of the academic community and invited guests. In his inaugural speech Peter Hornak termed the cooperation with his strategic partner U. S. Steel Kosice as traditionally outstanding, and emphasized that the conditions for cooperation offered by USSK to the Faculty of Metallurgy are above average standard compared with other large companies operating in Slovakia.

Ocel vychodu celebrates 50 years of existence

Last Friday, February 25th, former and current members of the editorial team of Ocel vychodu, together with their co-workers and guests, marked 50 years of existence of the company newspaper with a celebratory dinner party. The event was attended by USSK Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorak, President of the Regional Organization of the Slovak Syndicate of Journalists Katarina Cizmarikova, as well as USSK Public Affairs Department Director Jan Baca. In their addresses they stressed the importance of the informative and communicative functions of the newspaper, which has been issued without interruption since December 19th, 1960.

Trade unionists round the negotiating tables

In the coming weeks the members of KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Association, convened in thirteen basic organizations, will be assessing their activity during the past year. The series of meetings will be started off on March 4th by the trade unionists of the Transport Division, and the last ones to meet will be from the Cold Rolling Mill on April 7th. The KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Congress will be taking place on April 28th of this year.
