Wishing Tree Charity Concert

The Wishing Tree Christmas Charity Concert, which took place on December 9 in the Kosice State Theater, was the culmination of U. S. Steel Kosice's year-round effort in charity activities in the East Slovakian region. The concert gave pleasure in terms of entertainment, as well as generous support for two foster homes and ten families with socially disadvantaged backgrounds. There ws also very generous support for the Clinic for Pediatric Anestheziology and Intensive Medicine in Kosice. USSK employees, the Company itself and the U. S. Steel Kosice Foundation together collected and contributed 96 132 a, which the Children's Hospital will use for increasing the Clinic's bed capacity and supplementing its instrument technology.

Second-best in Europe

U. S. Steel has taken part successfully in the 24-hour Virtual Steelmaking Challenge competition, which is run once a year on the internet on the site www.steeluniversity.org. The sixth edition of the competition, which was held from Tuesday to Wednesday, November 15 - 16, was entered by 650 metallurgy students and young technical graduates in the steelmaking industry from 25 countries around the world. The first-round winners from the categories North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East & India and Africa & East Asia go through in line with the rules to the second round, which should take place in February 2012 in Brussels. Among them there will be two teams from our Corporation. U. S. Steel representatives in North America gained first place, while the Kosice team took excellent second place in the Europe category. The young Kosice steelmakers were congratulated on their success personally by USSK President David J. Rintoul.

Executive and Supervisory Boards of AMMIG SR hold session at USSK

The Executive and Supervisory Boards of the Association of Metallurgy and Mining Industries and Geology in the Slovak Republic chose U. S. Steel Kosice as the venue for the latest of their sessions this year. The meeting on the premises of the largest member of this interest group took place on December 9, 2011. The meeting's agenda consisted of current topics concerning the activities of the Association and its members. The session also included a plant tour taking in the operations of the Steel Plants, Hot and Cold Rolling Mills and the Coated Products and Tin Mill divisions.

Together for the Region for the fifth time

U. S. Steel Kosice in cooperation with the Carpathian Foundation have announced the fifth edition now of the grant program named Together for the Region. This program offers the chance to acquire grants for public-benefit activities which tangibly improve life in local communities and involve local people directly in their implementation. The aim is to support interesting and innovative projects focusing on free-time activities for children and young people, environmental education, safety, sport, preservation of cultural values and cooperation between various cultures. Projects involving the voluntary participation of employees of USSK and its subsidiaries are particularly welcome.
