Managers talk business

The results of business in the first quarter of this year, the current situation on the steel market, and the prospects for the future linked with steps which are feasible for the company, together formed the principal content for the meeting of U. S. Steel Kosice top management with executive staff which took place on Thursday, May 23. USSK President David J. Rintoul explained that the goal of this and further meetings, which he is planning to hold every three months, is to keep the team informed about what is happening in the company, and to work together to produce suggestions and good ideas which could move the Kosice steelworks forward.

Trade unionists assess the year's activity

The Conference of the KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Council, which assesses the trade unions' activity during the year to date, took place on May 25 this year. Taking part in the discussions were KOVO Trade Union Chairman Emil Machyna and titular Deputy Chairman Dusan Stefani, and U. S. Steel Kosice management led by Company President David J. Rintoul. The efforts of the trade unions, particularly in this complicated period marked by crisis and difficulties on the steel market, as KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Council Chairman Mikulas Hintos observed in his activity report, are aimed at not allowing any reduction in the standards achieved and continuing in the role of defenders of the employees' justified interests.

National Maintenance Forum 2012

The 12th edition of the annual international conference entitled National Maintenance Forum 2012, which took place in the High Tatras on May 29 and 30 this year, was attended by a record 206 maintenance staff from more than 40 firms in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Sweden and Brazil. During the proceedings, U. S. Steel Kosice General Manager Equipment Reliability Jan Petko was presented with the prestigious award of Maintenance Man of the Year 2011. He was nominated for this award by the management of USSK's primary operations section, for his contribution in the field of maintenance restructuring and for setting up the Equipment Reliability department. There was also an honorable mention from the Association of Slovakian Scientific and Technical Societies for USSK Equipment Reliability Management Director Mrek Rentko.

International Children's Day celebrations

This year's International Children's Day celebrations, organized again by U. S. Steel Kosice Public Affairs Department staff, took place at the now traditional vene of Kosice Zoo. More than 3000 visitors enjoyed the program on Saturday, June 2, which this time was not so traditional, because the leading roles in it were played by prehistoric monster lizards. Children had the chance to find out more about the lives of their favorite dinosaurs, and they were entertained with music and dance performances and took part in competitions to win candy prizes.
