Mario Longhi joins U. S. Steel as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

United States Steel Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John P. Surma this week announced that the company's Board of Directors has elected Mario Longhi to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He will report to U. S. Steel Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John P. Surma and will be based at U. S. Steel's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh. The company also announced the appointments of George F. Babcoke, Douglas R. Matthews and Michael S. Williams to the company's executive management committee. Longhi, 58, will be responsible for U. S. Steel's North American Flat-Rolled, Tubular and Central European operations, as well as global operations services.

Christian Korn is new USSK VP Commercial

The new U. S. Steel Kosice Vice President Commercial (sales and marketing) is Christian Korn (59). With effect from July 1, 2012 he replaces in this post Robert J. Beltz, who returns to the United States after nearly two and a half years of work in Kosice to take up new responsibilities. His successor is responsible for managing the commercial activities of the European division of the United States Steel Corporation.

Cold Rolling Mill employees work a million hours without injury

At the beginning of May this year the Cold Rolling Mill workforce could credit themselves with one million employee-hours worked without injury, and if they continue in this trend, then in just a month's time, in August, they could well enjoy a further success - a whole year of activity without injury. The results achieved by the rolling-mill staff in the field of occupational safety were acknowledged by U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul at the now traditional meeting with representatives of the successful team on June 21. The official working lunch was also attended by Vice President Operations Mark Tabler, GM Occupational Safety and Health and REACH USSK Daniel Mark Killeen, GM Rolling Mills Ladislav Hanuscalka and Cold Rolling Mill Division Director Peter Gazsi.

Opatovska Rally - Living at Full Throttle for the fifteenth time

The Opatovska Road Combined School in Kosice came alive on June 21 with the 15th edition of the annual Opatovska Rally - Living At Full Throttle event. Lining up for the start were 31 crews from Kosice, Prague and Bratislava, and sitting at the wheels of a wide range of makes of car were managers, actors, singers and TV presenters. All of them carrying a fragile load. Each driver with two or three children in back of them. U. S. Steel Kosice was the general sponsor of the event, and also "sent forth" the majority of the motorized managers. The co-organizer of the event, steelmaker Anetta Smikova, was naturally also one of them. The children with their drivers had to complete a 62-kilometer course, during which they did general knowledge quizzes and a driving skills test.

Families Do Sport

Saturday, August 11, 2012 sees the sixth in the series of annual fun-sports events called Families Do Sport. The event is prepared by USSK Public Affairs Department, and is intended for employees of the steekmaking company and their familiy members, who can do some sports together and spend a day full of fun and games in the pleasant surroundings of the Fun-Sports Area on Alejova Street in Kosice. You can apply using USSK intranet or one of the forms published in Ocel Vychodu, either way by July 31, 2012 at the latest.
