USS Corporation leaders visit Kosice steelmakers

Several days ago the Kosice steelmakers were visited by the top representatives of the United States Steel Corporation. President and CEO Mario Longhi and Vice President Innovation and Continuous Improvement David J. Rintoul were accompanied by John P. Surma, who took his leave of the Corporation on December 31, 2013, where he had worked for ten years as President and CEO, and also Chairman of the Board of Directors, having decided to go into retirement. Staying in Kosice for four days, the guests undertook a full program of working and social events. Straight after their arrival on January 9 the USS top managers had a meeting with employees of the steelworks. This meeting, which focused on current developments in the Corporation and included the presentation of awards for the work done by long-term employees of the Company, was attended by the Company managers and labor union leaders.

Transport employees have working lunch with USSK President George F. Babcoke

The first of this year's teams to have the opportunity of meeting U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke for a working lunch marking their success achieved in the field of occupational safety was a group of employees from the Transport Division. Ten transport workers represented the more than 780-member divisional workforce, who on December 10 of last year achieved the target of two million employee-hours worked without injury. As at January 15, 2014, the date of the meeting, their account already stood at more than 2 114 000 hours without an injury being recorded.

Let's revive and present our ancestors' heritage at home and abroad

Last year's sixth edition of the annual grant program run jointly by U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation called Together for the Region saw ten organizations gain grants for implementing public-benefit projects. One of those benefiting from the financial support ws the village of Brezovica. The dream of the lovers of traditional folk art and popular culture there about preserving local traditions could begin taking on real contours. The locals' aim was to revive the cultural heritage of their ancestors, to familiarize young people with the village's folk traditions, and to present them both locally and abroad. For these reasons, after a lengthy silence the Brezovican traditional folk ensemble was re-formed in Brezovica. The grant program contribution helped with the acquisition of new folk costumes.

USSK ice-hockey championship tournament starts

The now 47th edition of the traditional ice-hockey tournament to find the Champions of U. S. Steel Kosice, which is part of the XVIIIth edition of the USSK employees' Winter Games, began this Monday, January 20, on the ice of the Steel Arena. Twelve teams have entered the competition. Last year's winners, the Steel Plants team, are defending their title for the fifth time in a row now, having been USSK ice-hockey champions every year since 2010.
