U. S. Steel Kosice President's Award for the best projects of 2014

On Wednesday of last week, December 3, the U. S. Steel Kosice President's Award was presented to more than 170 Company employees who had participated in implementing the fifteen best projects in the year 2014, evaluated in five categories: Increasing Company revenues, Reducing costs, Improving the quality of products and customer services, Innovation of technologies and information systems, and Improving processes and OSHP. George F. Babcoke thanked the winners for their outstanding work, and all those who came up with ideas during the year for moving our Company forward for their valued efforts. He commented that a large number of people had contributed to the process with a lot of ideas, and it had been very difficult to select the best. Company management had decided to reward those working teams and projects which had had a particularly appreciable effect on the Company's results.

Fourth evening full of memories and congratulations

On Friday, November 28, the grandly decorated function room in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Kosice was once again dominated by a blue and white color combination. For the fourth and last time this year it was filled with steelmakers, accompanied by their family members, who have completed 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of work at the Kosice steelworks. This final celebratory evening was organized for long-serving employees in the Transportation, Power Engineering, Mechanics and Maintenance divisions and the Equipment Reliability department.

Safe Company Certificate for USSK subsidiary OBAL-SERVIS, A.S. Kosice

The SR Ministry for Employment, Social Affairs and the Family used the occasion of the international conference entitled Current Issues of Occupational Safety and Health Protection, which took place in the High Tatras on November 19, to award U. S. Steel Kosice subsidiary company OBAL-SERVIS, a.s. Kosice another of its Safe Company certificates. The award of this certificate was preceded by thorough verification of fulfillment of the criteria in the Safe Company program. OBAL-SERVIS is the only USSK organization to date which can boast of gaining this title.

Wishing Tree Project brings joy again to foster home children

This year's charity activities at U. S. Steel Kosice, which have Kathleen Babcoke as their principal sponsor, culminate this Friday, December 12, with the Wishing Tree Christmas benefit concert in the Kosice State Theater. Last week the USSK President's wife accompanied by the wives of the Vice Presidents delivered van-loads of gifts to the children in the foster homes at Secovce and Nizna Kamenica, bought for them by employees of the Company.

Women put forward proposals for improvement

On November 27 the U. S. Steel Kosice Women's Network organized a whole-day training session for its members, the aim of which was to present the main principles and methods of the Carnegie Way corporate transformation. The workshop met with a positive response, being in the words of the participants "most inspirational". Similar training sessions are expected to continue in the future, also involving specialists in the areas specifically identified by the women as still having potential for advancing the Company, with the aim of formulating and proposing realistic solutions.
