Yesterday, the mayor of the city, Jaroslav Polaček, met with the president of U. S. Steel Košice, Mike Piekut, in the premises of Steelpark to see the renovated entertainment and technical center.
Thanks to the support of the U. S. Steel Košice Foundation, new exhibits were built, which remind us of the importance of innovative energy production and a sustainable future that will be environmentally friendly. The new concept of the exhibition was co-authored by doc. PaedDr. Mgr. art. Boris Vaitovič, ArtD, from the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University of Košice, who presented the new exhibits.
Visitors will encounter stories about different types of energy, their production, use and saving. They will learn about a thermal piston, a model of a wind turbine, a robotic arm, but also an AI household and the impact of renewable energies on household consumption. Again, they can extract raw materials in an interactive sandpit, use a geological drill, walk over a footbridge in magnetic shoes, separate metal waste by controlling an electromagnetic crane or pull themselves up under their own power in a vertical climber.
"It's a fantastic place to learn, grow, be creative, and play and have fun in addition to learning about technology. It is amazing to be part of this city and to have the opportunity to contribute to such projects. We are proud that we were able to support Steelpark together with the city of Košice," said Mike Piekut, Deputy President of U. S. Steel Košice.
Steelpark was created to support creativity as part of the Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013 project. It is the result of cooperation between the city, the metallurgical company U. S. Steel Košice and three academic institutions – the Technical University of Košice, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.
"Steelpark is a place that is close to my heart, because I studied at the Faculty of Metallurgy of the Technical University of Košice. Steel is also produced here in Košice, in the steelworks, where I believe that many parents work. In the renovated exhibition, you can taste something new and I believe that it will bring a lot of joy," said the mayor of the city, Jaroslav Polaček.
On this occasion, children from the Center for Children and Families Hurbanova, CDR Uralská and Hroncova Elementary School accepted the invitation to the science and entertainment park.
To date, more than 100,000 children have visited Steelpark, who were able to look into various natural science disciplines in a creative way.
