Košice, 21 April 2026 – The company U. S. Steel Košice, s.r.o. has released the names of organizations and projects which shall receive support as part of the Together for the Region 2026 grant program. A total of €40,000 will be used this year to support 11 projects from the Košice and Prešov regions geared towards education and leisure-time activities for children, improving safety, protection of the environment and improvement of public space.
By the end of the year, thanks to the support from the program, a children's playground will be built in the premises of the Community Center in the village of Družstevná pri Hornáde, an inclusive indoor sandpit in the family relaxation center in Košice – Vyšné Opátske, as well as a new bell tower in the village of Vyšná Myšľa, where a historic bell will find its place. An environmental classroom will be added to the school playground of the Jozef Urban Primary School in Košice and a gymnastics exercise room in Kamenica nad Cirochou, which will also be available to the public. The Dirtpark cycling complex in Košice will get a safe training element for young athletes, the Košice Children's Railway will revitalize the cycling track area and cross-country skiing trails will be groomed at Kojšovská hoľa before the season.
A specific feature of all projects is the volunteer activity of the employees of the steelmaking company in projects’ implementation. Mike Piekut, Deputy President of U. S. Steel Košice, appreciates their contribution: "The interest of our colleagues in the communities and environment in which they live is a clear proof of the values we build on. It is inspiring to see how they are bringing real change to our region with their engagement."
The Together for the Region grant program has been opening the door to new ideas for 19 years – so far, 172 projects have received support, in the total amount of more than 450,000 euros.
