FMMR celebrates 65th anniversary of its founding

U. S. Steel Košice President Scott Buckiso has become one of the foursome of “godfathers” of the newly-restarted Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling at the Technical University of Košice. The official presentation of the Faculty's new name on November 16 of this year was combined with a graduates' reunion and the Šachťák ceremony of acceptance of new students into the metallurgical profession (Slovak “šachta” means the shaft of a mine or blast furnace).

This celebration in Košice's Palace of Art was the culmination of a series of events marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the former Faculty of Metallurgy, which was one of the three founding faculties of the original Technical University of Košice.

These events included a conference entitled “65 years from the Faculty of Metallurgy to the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling”, attended by guests from all over Slovakia and other countries as well. Representatives came to express congratulations from partner faculties at universities in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungery, Serbia and Croatia as well as from many companies, for whom the Faculty in its 65 years of functioning has educated more than 5800 graduates and around 560 PhDs.
