We know the winners of Talent Night 2006

The 6th edition of the young performers' support project U. S. Steel Talent Night 2006 has produced new winners. In the Steel Arena on Monday evening, first place in the Musical Bands and Singers category was taken by Good Fancy, and in the Dance category by Richard Szilagyi and Silvia Kozakova. The Audience's Awards were won by Good Fancy and Richard Szilagyi and Silvia Kozakova, too. Awards of financial assistance from the event's organizer, U. S. Steel Kosice, are given to the winners to support their creative activity, such as recording a new single and video clip, making new costumes or purchasing sound equipment.

Record slabs shipment

In the month of August the steelmakers of the Slab Production operation in the Slabs Finishing and Shipping section succeeded in breaking the record set in March of this year, exceeding that month's export slabs shipment volume by 42 000 tons. As Ocel Vychodu was told by Slabs Finishing and Shipping Manager Stefan Gabani, shares of the credit for the new record must also go to the employees of the Transport Division, and to the staff of GM Production Logistics and Commercial Planning and GM Sales Plan and Customer Service/ Non-prime Sales.

School gates open

On Monday, September 4th, more than 40 000 pupils in 99 secondary schools and school-type institutions run by the Kosice Self-governing Region began the new school year 2006/2007. As Ocel Vychodu was told by the Principal of the Secondary Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca Jozef Sablatura, a total of 790 pupils have taken up places in the school's classes, which is eighty more than last year. There are nine classes initiating 243 first-graders into the secrets of the metallurgical trades, specifically metallurgical equipment operator, computer network mechanic, milling and welding machine programmer, machine and equipment mechanic-repairman, and electrician-mechanic. By agreement, three of the first-grade classes will be preparing pupils to be future metallurgical equipment operators as required by U. S. Steel Kosice.

Open Day at the Sports and Fun Complex

A day full of fun and sports was prepared by the organizing staff of Kosice-South Ward and Kosice Municipal Authorities last Tuesday, August 29th, at the Sports and Fun Complex on Alejova Street in Kosice for the children in the children's homes at Velke Kapusany and Spissky Stiavnik, the Crisis Intervention Centers in Cana and Adlerova Street in Kosice, the Special Boarding Elementary School in Zdana, and the Re-educational Home at Upper Bankov near Kosice. The Sports and Fun Complex, which was recently revived with financial and material assistance from U. S. Steel Kosice, spreads over an area of more than two hectares (three soccer grounds). There are play areas here for soccer (with artificial turf), basketball and beach volleyball, a traffic playground and an amphitheater, and just recently another playground was opened here with climbing frames, swings and a small roundabout.

USSK Summer Olympics

The Summer Olympics for U. S. Steel Kosice employees are being held this coming weekend, namely on Friday and Saturday, September 8th and 9th. More than a thousand employees of USSK and its subsidiaries will be taking part.
