EKOTOPFILM 2006 begins in Bratislava

This Monday, October 23rd, saw the beginning in the Tatra Hotel complex in Bratislava of the 23rd edition of the annual International Festival of Specialist Films focusing on environmental issues EKOTOPFILM 2006, the general sponsor of which for the sixth timme is U. S. Steel Kosice. The Company was represented at the Festival's opening by President David H. Lohr annd GM Environment Tibor Duchonovic. The decision about which film wins the Grand Prix Ekotopfilm 2006 will be made this week by the international jury chaired by Bruce Bucklin of the USA. The prestigious award in the category of popular-scientific films will be presented by U. S. Steel Kosice as the Festival's general sponsor. This event, which will be going on until Friday, October 27th, will be continuing with showings of the winning films in Kosice from November 7th - 9th, and then it will be moving on to Prague.

Trades unionists meet the President

The members of the Council of Trades Union Metalurg U. S. Steel Kosice, which is chaired by Mikulas Dula, were joined on Thursday, October 19th 2006 by USSK President David H. Lohr, who came to inform them about the Company's results of business and prognoses up to the end of 2006, and then to discuss current problems affecting Company employees. This event was one of the regular meetings between representatives of the unions and Company management. The President emphasized in particular the outstanding results achieved this year in the field of occupational safety. The Company is getting the best ever results of injury frequency rate in its history, and the Kosice works is the Corporation's best plant in terms of all accident frequency.

Most beautiful drawings for the OSH calendar

The Department of GM Safety at U. S. Steel Kosice is announcing a competition for the most beautiful drawings on the theme of occupational safety and health, which will then form the basis for the 2007 calendar entitled Safety Through Children's Eyes. The competition may be entered by the children and grandchildren between 6 and 15 years of age of employees of U. S. Steel Kosice and its majority-controlled subsidiary companies. The main requirement for entry in this competition is to produce an original colored drawing which best illustrates how children imagine the safe working practices of their parents and grandparents in their USSK workplaces. The thirteen best pictures (for the 12 months and the cover) will be compiled into the occupational safety and health calendar for 2007, accompanied by photos of the young artists.

USSK gift to the Transport Vocational School

A gift from U. S. Steel Kosice in the form of 173 pairs of working footwear and the same number of sets of working clothes, intended to improve safety at work during practical lessons, was delivered on Tuesday of last week to the Secondary Vocational School for Transport, where it is extremely appreciated. In the words of School Principal Jozef Eperjesi, this support is especially welcome since most of the pupils come from socially-disadvantaged families.

Grzyba triumphs in the Kosice Rally

The 32nd edition of the annual Kosice Rally, which took place from Friday to Sunday of last week with financial assistance from principal advertising partner U. S. Steel Kosice, was won by the Polish crew of Grzegorz Grzyba/Robert Hudla. Second place was taken by Slovaks - driver Tibor Cserhalmi and co-driver Martin Krajnak, winners of the Kosice Rally in 2003 and 2004, and third place went to the crew of Igor Drotar and Vladimir Banóci.
