Anton Lukac visits Kosice steelmakers

Last week, during his holiday in Europe and Slovakia, U. S. Steel Corporation Vice President Engineering and Technology Anton Lukac visited the Kosice steelworks. On Thursday, August 13th, accompanied by U. S. Steel Kosice Vice President Technology Vladimir Jacko, he looked round blast furnace no.1 and the new coke-gas desulfurizing plant, which is under construction. He appreciated the very good work of the team involved in repairing the furnace and refitting the gas scrubber.

Materials Management with one million injury-free hours

Four years of injury-free work have been achieved by the 146-member team in the USSK Materials Management section, which is success more precisely of one million working hours without injury. They reached this target a few days ago, on August 5th. "This is success for the whole team, and it is the result of their responsible approach to issues of occupational safety," stated GM Materials Management Juraj Mondik. The principal activity of the section consists of managing the Company's material stocks, maintaining them at balanced economic levels and overseeing their proper storage. Steelworks employees have access to all types of materials through the eight main stores operations.

Refrako responds to customer requirements

Refractory materials customers demand quality at a good price, but apart from this they also want materials that are environment-friendly. USSK subsidiary Refrako is responding to this trend. Recently they have successfully developed and applied several materials primarily for use in the steelmaking process. These include ecological material for blocking blast-furnace tapping-holes, torcreting materials for mobile pig-iron mixers, and refractory concrete for tundish retainers in the Steel Plants.

HC Kosice Under-18s win Ladislav Trojak Memorial Trophy

The 30th edition of the annual Ladislav Trojak Memorial tournament saw four Slovak Under-18 ice-hockey teams fighting to win the precious Trophy. Victory went to the young players of HC Kosice, who met no-one who could overcome them in the whole tournament.
