Trade unionists assess the year's activity

More than a hundred trade unionists, delegates from the 13 basic union organizations within the steelworks, met on April 28 for the conference of OZ KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Council. In his report on the Union's activity during the past year, OZ KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Council Chairman Mikulas Hintos explained that the Union had focused primarily on the areas of collective bargaining, welfare of members and occupational safety and health protection. These topics also dominated in the negotiations between the Union and the Company as its social partner.

Innovation Camp 2011

On Thursday, April 28, ninety secondary school students from several vocational schools constituted by the Kosice Self-governing Region came together at U. S. Steel Kosice's Public Affairs Department to contest first place in a competition forming part of the new educational project set up by the Junior Achievement Slovakia non-profit educational organization, entitled Creativity&Innovation Challenge. Its aim is to support young people's creativity and develop team-work, improving presentation skills and the ability to think innovatively. The project encourages cooperation between specialists from real companies and the students, who they help as specialist consultants in dealing with real challenges. The Kosice steelworks is the first industrial company in Slovakia where this innovative form of education has been implemented. The winning team will be representing Slovakia at the European finals of the Creativity&Innovation Challenge taking place in Brussels next week.

American hockey players at U. S. Steel Kosice

On Tuesday, May 3, the members of the USA's national ice-hockey team visited U. S. Steel Kosice at the invitation of Company President David J. Rintoul. The players and team staff listened with interest to information about the Company's production program, and enjoyed a plant tour taking in the operations of the Steel Plants and Hot Strip Mill divisions.

External QMS audit finishes today

Today, May 11, sees the end of a three-day inspection audit of the quality management system (QMS) at U. S. Steel Kosice in line with the ISO/TS 16949 standard, and a renewal audit of the QMS in line with ISO 9001. This audit is being carried out by auditors from the TÜV NORD Slovakia certification company, who are verifying the way in which the Company fulfills the requirements of the certification standards and of the customers through its quality management system.
