Last year, after 15 years, darts were added to the list of sports disciplines of the U. S. Steel Košice Summer Sports Games. The fact that this sport is popular among our employees was also evidenced by the number of applicants. 65 people came to try a good aim and an accurate hand.
The organizers of the LŠH have come up with a novelty and this year they have decided to provide space for children as well.
There are two categories for children - juniors up to 10 years of age and children from 10 to 15 years of age. Due to the average age of our company's employees, the organizers will allow not only children but also grandchildren to sign up for darts. Separate machines will be set aside for children and can be registered by an employee in the registration form, which is published on the Internet: Summer Sports Games 2025 - U. S. Steel Košice.
Also this year, the tournament will be held in the premises on Jedlíkova Street in Košice. How will the tournament be organized? Tibor Andaházy, co-organizer and last year's winner, answers: "The tournament will last two days. On Friday, we will play a qualifying tournament in the High Score discipline, with the top 32 players advancing to Saturday's finals, which will take place in the 501 DO discipline. Competitions for children will be in the game High Ssore. We would like to award the winners of the children's categories on Friday evening, if too many competitors sign up, we will move the award to the end of Saturday's finals for adults."
In this sports discipline, you don't need to have a lot of training. Of course, experienced players also apply. In Košice, several small, local tournaments are organized every week. They are enthusiasts, not professionals, but among them there are also those who can play well and achieve good results. That was also the composition of the players at last year's tournament. There were also people who held darts in their hands for the first time, but also those who are known from Košice tournaments.
"Last year we had a nice example. The 3rd place was taken by an employee who was not known in this community, did not participate in any tournaments, sometimes played at home and in the end beat almost everyone. Amateurs also have a chance. All you need is good form, good style and a steady hand. Not only individuals came, but also colleagues from work, who took this opportunity as a small teambuilding," says Tibor Andaházy.
The organizers of the darts tournament would like to go even further. They would like to bring the local ironworks community together outside of the summer sports games. Suitable premises can be found in most city districts.
