OSH Champion title for Jim Bruno, representing all steelworks employees

On Wednesday morning, January 15, 2019 the participants in the regular main war room meeting witnessed the awarding of the title of OSH Champion for the month of December 2019. The holder this time is James Bruno, President of U. S. Steel Košice. As USSK Deputy General Manager Occupational Safety and Hygiene Robert Meitner explained, Jim Bruno has gained the OSH Champion title as the representative of all the employees of U. S. Steel Košice, who can take credit for the fact that in the year 2019 our Company achieved the best results in the area of occupational safety and health protection in its history.

“For the first time since the establishment of U. S. Steel Košice we have succeeded in completing a year with no injury in the DAFN category as defined in the OSHA system. In the history of our Company so far, the frequency of injuries registered according to the OSHA method in 2019 was the lowest so far, reaching 0.10, whereas in 2017 it was 0.13. These results confirm that the conditions created by management are focused on fulfilling the main motto of the United States Steel Corporation since its foundation, which is Safety First, and that the efforts and behavior of all employees on all levels are aimed at achieving the zero injury rate,” said Robert Meitner before officially presenting the award.

“I'm convinced that all of you deserve this award,” said steelworks President Jim Bruno after accepting it. “You should all be proud of yourselves and of all your colleagues and the employees as well, because we have succeeded in achieving this result together. And of course we should set ourselves a demanding goal for this year as well, which is that during the whole course of it we should have no registered oocupational injury. Once again I thank everyone for their work in the field of safety.”
